Welcome to the Darfur Crisis Committee!

Hi all,

We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 69! This is our blog for the Darfur Crisis.

In this committee, you will be simulating an amalgamation of meetings, conferences, and private chambers and acting as various characters from Sudan, the UN, and beyond. The goal of committee is primarily to bring an end to the genocide in Darfur; there are some other goals that you can consider, but we'll get into those later.

The main purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other characters' policies before debate actually starts. You can post comments on posts that we make and write about literally anything, e.g. more relevant follow-up content or research you've found, your characters's opinion on this topic, discussion questions, etc. Please write in first-person as the character that you are representing.

Let's just say this blog is our committee's communal baby — we'd love to see you interact with it! (I'll also be posting important updates before and during committee here.)

The official Darfur committee page is linked here. That's where you can find the executive summary, topic synopsis, and the link to this blog.

We highly recommend taking advantage of the synopsis as the starting point in your research. It looks really scary and long, but we promise that it's a digestible read; plus, a good portion of it is images and citations.

Before coming to committee, make sure to review the procedure guide. We will be using standard BMUN crisis procedure. The format of your position paper will only differ from standard BMUN format with regards to the character policy section (instead of country policy), so please take note of that.

If you have any questions about the topics, the procedure, your position paper, or BMUN in general, please don't hesitate to contact us at darfurbmunlxix@bmun.org.

Good luck with your research! Get pumped for BMUN 69!

Best,

Laura Nguyen

Head Chair of Darfur Crisis, BMUN 69

Character Profiles: Update

Hello Delegates! With one week left before conference, we hope you've been preparing well for committee!  Due to a discrepancy between the character profiles and the assignments sent out to delegates, some characters were not included in the topic synopsis. We have included their profiles here for you to view. To help with your preparation, here are the two characters and their profiles for your consideration – think about how you might interact and work with them to achieve your personal and committee goals! [Please Read!] Clarifying Crisis Procedure + Tech Protocols

Hi everyone! We only have four more days until BMUN!!! Since BMUN is so close now, the chairs put together this mini-crisis rundown to help you all prepare for committee this upcoming weekend! Please read it in its entirety so that you are ready for committee. What is a "crisis committee"? Crisis committees are committees set in a certain time period, emulating different members of a small organization (ie. board of directors, senators, military members, etc). The main difference between a crisis committee and a general assembly committee is the pacing. In this committee, there will be about 20 delegates working to solve multiple "crises" that are brought up in relation to the topic, ranging from protecting refugees from an attack to responding to a drought that has left civilians without water. Instead of representing countries, each delegate plays a different character with a direct influence on the outcome of each event. When committee starts, unlike in general a...
