Head Chair Intro: Laura Nguyen

Hi everyone! This is my intro post! My name is Laura Nguyen, and I'll be your head chair for BMUN 69's Darfur Crisis Committee. I'm currently a third-year at Cal studying Sociology and Data Science. I love learning about sex and gender, political theory (especially stuff about class, imperialism, and feminism), and other stuff from the ~sociological canon~. As for Data Science — well, it's genuinely painful and I am in constant pain, but it's really useful and satisfying or whatever. Outside of BMUN, I do research on campus about abortion and contraception; our research group sometimes collabs with the Human Rights Center to do open-source research on human rights abuses related to reproductive health. I also write and do editing work for the Daily Californian, and I'm involved with student organizing with the Cal YDSA. Wow, sorry for the resume unload! I just want to talk about myself so that you all feel comfortable approaching me with questions about committe...

Vice Chair Intro: Saran Uthayakumar

*that's me in the middle circa BMUN 68*  Hi y'all, my name is Saran (he/they) and I will be one of your vice chairs in the Darfur Genocide Crisis Committee this year. I am in my final year at Cal, where I study history and specifically study the history of genocide and human rights. I am currently applying to barista jobs and finding out where I will be going to graduate school – so a very exciting time of my life. In my free time, I love teaching and have been involved in teaching model UN at BMUN and beyond, as a coach at a training center!  I am really passionate about human rights topics and more so interested in how international organizations perceived national actions and nations' own responses to genocide. Sudan remains one of the most prevalent cases of genocide – and Darfur remains unaddressed and unacknowledged internationally despite its prominence in the media today. As delegates, I hope you intentionally think about the patterns of genocide, your role as i...

Vice Chair Intro: Ryan Fiorito!

HELLO everyone! Thank you for clicking on my post. My name is Ryan Fiorito, and I am so excited to be one of your vice chairs for what will easily be the best committee of BMUN 69.  If you want to know a little about me, I am a junior here at Cal studying both political science and psychology. I have been doing Model United Nations for 7 (!!!!) years now, but chairing this committee will be my first ever crisis experience! Apart from BMUN, I am in an international relations co-ed fraternity, and I'm really funny so I'm in some improv comedy groups as well (teehee). Some of my favorite things to do when I'm not studying or living in a pandemic include thrifting all around Berkeley, climbing hills and looking at the views, and binging television shows with my friends! Unfortunately in quarantine I can only really keep up the last one, but I am currently two seasons in to Killing Eve  and would love other show recs to watch! I can't wait to see what you have all prepared f...

Vice Chair Intro: Madeleine Wang

Hi everyone!  I'm Madeleine Wang, but I normally go by Maddy! (Feel free to call me whichever) I'm so excited to be one of your vice-chairs for the Darfur Genocide Crisis Committee!  A little about me: I'm currently a first-year, majoring in Data Science and Public Health and (potentially) minoring in Logic. I did MUN throughout high school and loved competing in crisis committees, so I can't wait to see what you guys accomplish in committee. Outside of BMUN, I'm involved in TEDxBerkeley and the Cal Equestrian Team. Despite being a very slow reader, I love reading in my free time! I'm currently reading The Trial by Franz Kafka but I'm always open to recommendations. (I'll read anything if it captures me in the first 20 pages, so humor me) I also love to bake, paint, and be outdoors. During quarantine, I finally got to visit super awesome hiking trails all around California!  If you have any questions about committee, BMUN, or anything else, please email...

Vice Chair Intro: Deepak Ragu

Hey Guys! My name is Deepak Ragu, and I am super excited to be one of your vice-chairs for the Darfur Genocide Crisis Committee this year! I am currently a sophomore at UC Berkeley, and I'm a Computer Science and Political Science double major. Having done MUN since 7th grade, I'm super excited to once again chair at BMUN! During high school, I've had the opportunity to both compete in and chair crisis committees, so I look forward to once again applying my skills and helping delegates improve their crisis abilities as well. Even though we're gonna be virtual, I know we'll still have a bunch of exciting events and a great time together! Outside of MUN, I'm involved with a few other organizations at Cal as well, including Sigma Alpha Nu (co-ed pre-law fraternity). In my free time, I usually just hang out with my friends or catch up on tv shows like The Flash and Forever. During quarantine, I've had the chance to watch Game of Thrones (spoiler alert: it doesn...
